Dear Editor,
I listened carefully to Prime Minister Gaston Browne's account of his past meeting with Adrian Williams, and I also read Mr. Williams' response. According to Antigua News Room, which published both exchanges, that response falls well short of what the public deserves.
The Prime Minister did not speak in vague terms. He offered specific details — that Mr. Williams came to him asking how he and his family could make money, that they discussed business opportunities, property, and wealth creation, and that he provided examples of what was said and what advice was given.
Those are serious and very specific claims.
So why is Mr. Williams responding with general statements about "leadership" and "vision"? That answers nothing.
As a voter, I am not interested in slogans. I want straight answers.
Did you meet with the Prime Minister or not? Did you ask him those questions or not? Did you discuss business opportunities and making money or not?
It is very simple.
You cannot come before the public invoking words like "defamation" and "rhetoric" while sidestepping the actual issue. If what the Prime Minister said is false, then say so clearly. If it is true, then explain it.
Right now, it looks like you are dodging. And that is a problem.
If you are asking people to trust you to represent them, you must be open and direct. You cannot choose when to be transparent based on what is convenient.
People are paying attention. We are not fools. We heard what was said, and we see how you are responding.
This election is too important for games and talking points. We need honesty.
So once again, Mr. Williams — answer the questions directly.
