A driver rammed through the gates of Charlesworth T. Samuel House on Independence Drive late Sunday night, damaging the building that serves as the office of the Leader of the Opposition.
According to Antigua.news, the identity of the driver had not been confirmed at the time of reporting. Eyewitnesses stated that the individual had been acting erratically when observed at a nearby gas station shortly before the incident.
The vehicle was travelling at sufficient speed to not only breach the gates of the Charlesworth T. Samuel House but also destroy the fence of a neighbouring property.
Antigua.news reporters arrived on scene at 11:00 p.m. The incident occurred on the same evening that the United Progressive Party was hosting its election launch at Knuckle Block.
The publication indicated it would provide further updates, including a response from Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle and an official report from the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda, as additional information becomes available.
