Barbuda People's Movement leader Trevor Walker has pledged to secure a dialysis machine for Barbuda residents if elected, vowing to end the hardship faced by patients who must travel to Antigua multiple times weekly for life-saving treatment. According to Antigua.news, Walker made the commitment during a community meeting held last night.
Addressing supporters, Walker drew attention to the gruelling routine endured by dialysis patients who must make the round trip to Antigua twice a week. "You imagine going to Antigua twice a week… and coming back the same way," he said, calling the situation unacceptable.
Walker stated that a BPM administration would prioritise healthcare investment, including the recruitment and training of qualified personnel capable of operating the equipment locally, ensuring patients receive care close to home.
The BPM leader framed the absence of dialysis services as part of what he described as a broader pattern of neglect toward Barbuda's essential needs. He vowed that his administration would move to close long-standing gaps in healthcare and other vital services on the island.
