The Max Fernandez CG Gunners have claimed the 2026 League Championship, delivering a commanding performance that has sparked celebrations across Cedar Grove and the wider St. John's Rural North community. According to Antigua News Room, the victory was decisive and emphatic from start to finish.

From the opening whistle, the Gunners took the court with focus and discipline, generating an atmosphere that supporters described as unlike anything seen before. Fans, families, and community members packed the venue, their roaring support energising the team throughout the contest.

Their opponents, the Old Road Daggers, struggled to match the Gunners' intensity and cohesion, appearing unsettled and out of sync as the champions controlled the game from early on.

Honorable H. Charles 'Max' Fernandez, the team's sponsor and Minister, hailed the triumph as a reflection of hard work and collective purpose. "This victory shows what happens when preparation meets passion. I am immensely proud of this team — their discipline, their drive, and their determination carried them all the way. It was truly an honour to stand with them and support their journey," he said.

Minister Fernandez noted that the championship extends a growing tradition of sporting success tied to his constituency sponsorship. "This is now the second major championship by a team under my sponsorship. Just last year, our football team, the Cedar Grove Blue Jays, secured promotion to the First Division after a dominant run. We are building champions in St. John's Rural North, and we're just getting started," he added.

Minister Fernandez and Team Rural North extended congratulations to the players, coaches, and supporters who contributed to the Gunners' historic season.
