A New Winthropes man has been ordered to pay $20,000 in compensation after pleading guilty to causing grievous bodily harm to his neighbour during a 2022 attack. According to Antigua News Room, Donneil Anthony appeared before the High Court, where he admitted his role in the June 12 assault that left his neighbour, Hampson, with a severe arm injury.

The court heard that Hampson was walking in the area when Anthony, who had been behaving aggressively, launched an unprovoked attack on him with a piece of wood. Hampson attempted to flee, but Anthony gave chase. The assault was only brought to an end when a bystander stepped in and intervened.

Hampson was subsequently transported to hospital, where doctors diagnosed a displaced fracture requiring surgical intervention. Metal plates and screws were inserted to stabilise the injury. No clear motive for the attack was established.

The High Court ordered Anthony to make an immediate payment of $5,000, with the outstanding balance to be settled through monthly instalments of $1,000 beginning next month. Should Anthony fail to comply with the payment order, he faces a six-month prison sentence.
