LIAT Air is actively exploring a partnership with regional ferry operator L'Express Des Iles to strengthen transportation links across the Caribbean, according to Antigua.news.
LIAT Air CEO Hafsah Abdulsalam confirmed the discussions on Friday during the airline's inaugural Antigua-to-Guadeloupe flight, describing the potential collaboration as part of a broader regional expansion strategy.
"We do have plans to partner with them, and my team has already been in contact," Abdulsalam told reporters.
L'Express Des Iles operates passenger ferry services between several French and Eastern Caribbean islands. Abdulsalam said LIAT Air sees the partnership as an opportunity to extend its reach well beyond the Antigua-Guadeloupe corridor, pointing to ferry routes that also serve Dominica and St. Lucia.
"We also see the connectivity not just for Antigua as well. There's Dominica, there's St. Lucia, there's ferry service on those routes as well," she said.
The CEO noted that combining air and sea transport options could improve regional movement and create more accessible travel opportunities for both tourists and Caribbean nationals.
Friday's launch marked the start of LIAT Air's twice-weekly Antigua-to-Guadeloupe service, the airline's latest step in rebuilding and expanding intra-Caribbean travel connections.
Industry observers believe closer collaboration between LIAT Air and ferry operators could pave the way for multi-destination travel packages and smoother transit for passengers moving between French and English-speaking Caribbean territories.
