A Jamaican national has pleaded guilty to drug trafficking charges stemming from the seizure of nearly $250,000 worth of cannabis at Deep Water Harbour more than a year ago, according to Antigua News Room.
Damar Sappleton, who had been residing in Bendals, entered his guilty plea before High Court Judge John Spencer on Wednesday.
The case originated from a joint police and customs operation conducted on 8 March 2024. During that operation, officers discovered 41 pounds of cannabis concealed inside two boxes at the harbour. Authorities estimated the street value of the seized drugs at $246,000.
Sappleton was remanded into custody following the hearing and is scheduled to return to court for sentencing on 5 June.
