Former national and Five Islands footballer Fernando "Nando" Abraham has announced his intention to contest the upcoming Antigua and Barbuda Football Association (ABFA) presidential election, saying he was driven to enter the race after assessing the other candidates who had already declared their intentions.

According to Antigua Observer, Abraham said his decision was sparked by a lack of confidence in the individuals who had previously indicated they would seek election at the May 21st electoral congress. "The persons who," he began, suggesting his assessment of the field left him unconvinced that the sport would be in capable hands.

Abraham, who built his reputation on the pitch representing both the national team and Five Islands, appears to be making the transition from player to football administrator, positioning himself as an alternative candidate ahead of the congress.
