Newly elected Minister of State Michael Freeland received a notable public endorsement during Tuesday's Throne Speech, with the government signalling growing confidence in the young parliamentarian's capacity for leadership.
Governor General Sir Rodney Williams praised Freeland for already taking on significant responsibilities within the Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Transportation and Investment. The speech described his contributions as "leadership and burden sharing that tests his mettle and assures his constituents of success."
Freeland won the St George constituency by a commanding margin in the April 30 general election. The Throne Speech recognition places him among the emerging figures being closely watched within the administration as Antigua and Barbuda advances major tourism and investment initiatives.
The Throne Speech also drew attention to substantial tourism infrastructure projects falling under the ministry's broad portfolio. These include airport runway rehabilitation and ongoing development works in Barbuda — areas that will demand significant ministerial attention in the months ahead.
