Work has officially begun on a large-scale mural of the CHOGM 2026 logo at the Antigua Recreation Grounds, constructed entirely from recycled bottle caps in a project blending environmental consciousness with public art.
The CHOGM 2026 Secretariat is leading the initiative, which transforms donated bottle caps into a vibrant installation designed to promote sustainability, creativity, and community involvement ahead of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Antigua and Barbuda.
Artistic Director Calvin Pilgrim is heading the creative effort, guiding volunteers, students, organisations, and members of the public who turned out for Friday's launch. The recycled bottle caps used in the project were donated by Good Humans 268, an organisation recognised for its recycling and environmental stewardship work across Antigua and Barbuda.
Hon. E.P. Chet Greene, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Trade and Immigration and Chair of the CHOGM 2026 Task Force, attended the launch and praised the project as a reflection of the country's broader sustainability ambitions.
"This initiative reflects our commitment to sustainability and community engagement. It is a reminder that small actions, like recycling, can create something beautiful and meaningful for our nation," Greene said.
Briana Anthony, Public Relations Officer within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Lead for Local Media Outreach at the CHOGM 2026 Secretariat, described the project as a vehicle for community unity and environmental responsibility.
"The purpose of the initiative is to bring communities together through art while promoting environmental consciousness and national pride. It is an opportunity for everyone to contribute creatively to CHOGM 2026," Anthony said.
Organisers say the completed mural will serve as both a visual landmark and a symbol of Antigua and Barbuda's commitment to sustainability and innovation as the nation prepares to host the landmark summit.
