The Gunthropes community is benefiting from a sustained bulk waste cleanup initiative spearheaded by St. Peter Member of Parliament Rawdon Turner, as efforts to create cleaner and healthier surroundings across the constituency continue to gain momentum.
According to Antigua.news, the initiative remains active across several sections of the community and has already resulted in the removal of large quantities of bulky waste, discarded appliances, old furniture, vegetation, and other debris — items residents say had become a growing concern.
Teams of volunteers, community members, and workers have been operating steadily alongside constituency representatives to improve the area's appearance and address environmental and public health issues.
Turner said the campaign reflects his commitment to delivering meaningful, visible improvements throughout St. Peter.
"Real change happens when we consistently show up, listen to the needs of the people, and take action," Turner said. "Community by community, we are making a difference and building a cleaner, healthier, and more beautiful St. Peter."
The MP, who also serves as Minister of Social and Urban Development, emphasised that the initiative is not a one-time exercise but part of a broader, continuing effort to improve living conditions across the constituency.
"The work continues," Turner added. "This is about building pride in our communities and ensuring residents can enjoy cleaner and safer surroundings."
Residents have welcomed the efforts, with many praising the noticeable transformation taking place in parts of Gunthropes and expressing hope that the programme will be extended to additional areas.
The cleanup forms part of a wider constituency improvement programme championed by Turner, with additional community projects and environmental enhancement activities expected to continue throughout St. Peter in the coming months.
