Antigua and Barbuda's two oldest centenarians received special visits from Governor General His Excellency Sir Rodney Williams this week as Centenarian Week 2026 celebrations continue across the nation.

Sir Rodney, accompanied by Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Social and Urban Transformation Mrs. Almira Henry and Director of the Community Development and Citizens' Engagement Division Ms. Dale O'Brien, visited 102-year-old Mrs. Edna Chiddick of Paynters and 101-year-old Mr. Denzil O'Brien Cummins of Sea View Farm on Tuesday.

The visits reflect the government's ongoing commitment to honouring the country's centenarians and recognising the invaluable role they have played in shaping Antigua and Barbuda through generations of service, resilience, sacrifice, and wisdom.

Officials engaged in warm conversation with both centenarians, reflecting on their lives, experiences, and contributions. Their extraordinary journeys continue to inspire younger generations and stand as powerful reminders of the strength and determination that have helped build communities across the nation.

The delegation also visited Anja's Creations, a local business and proud sponsor of Centenarian Week 2026. The entrepreneur has generously provided birthday cakes for every centenarian celebrating a birthday during the observance, adding a meaningful touch to the week's festivities and ensuring each milestone receives a proper celebration.

Director Dale O'Brien commended the partnership, emphasising that community involvement is essential to recognising and uplifting the nation's elderly population.

Centenarian Week 2026 continues with a series of activities celebrating the lives and achievements of Antigua and Barbuda's oldest citizens, whose legacy remains an enduring source of national pride.
