Barbuda has successfully completed a multi-day Tsunami Ready exercise designed to strengthen community awareness and emergency response capabilities across the island. According to Antigua Observer, the initiative ran from May 26th to 28th and brought together schools, disaster management officials, international experts, and community stakeholders.
The exercise was led by the National Office of Disaster Services (NODS) as part of Barbuda's ongoing commitment to disaster preparedness. The three-day programme combined practical drills with public awareness activities, ensuring that residents and institutions across the island were engaged in the process.
The inclusion of schools in the exercise signals a broader effort to embed disaster readiness into community life from an early age. International experts also participated, lending technical guidance and global best practices to the local response framework.
The successful completion of the Tsunami Ready exercise marks a significant step in Barbuda's resilience-building efforts, particularly given the island's vulnerability to natural hazards in the Caribbean region.
