Marlon Carr has been sentenced to six years in prison for his role in the armed robbery of three elderly victims at the Mill Reef Club in 2022. According to Antigua News Room, Justice Ann Marie Smith handed down the sentence last week following a judge-alone trial in which Carr was found guilty on three counts of aggravated robbery.
The court heard that the three victims, all in their seventies, were confronted while relaxing near a poolside cabana on April 6, 2022. They were threatened with knives, restrained with duct tape, and robbed of cash, jewellery, mobile phones, and other valuables.
Carr was one of three men charged in connection with the incident. Co-accused Rickardo Bussawan pleaded guilty and received an eight-year prison sentence last year, while charges against a third man, Delon Wills, were discontinued.
A statement Carr gave to police proved to be a key piece of evidence in the case. After initially denying any involvement, Carr later admitted to driving the other men to the property and acknowledged helping to restrain one of the victims after she attempted to flee.
Carr told investigators he did not carry a weapon and did not receive any of the stolen items, but admitted he was aware the other men were armed.
He was convicted in March and subsequently sentenced to six years' imprisonment.
