The Antigua and Barbuda Investment Authority (ABIA) has issued an urgent warning to the public regarding fraudulent activity involving the unauthorized use of its name, logo, and brand identity.
ABIA has identified individuals impersonating the Authority on Facebook and potentially other social media platforms. These impostors are promoting fake investment opportunities and soliciting funds from unsuspecting members of the public.
The Authority was clear: ABIA does not solicit funds via Facebook, WhatsApp, or any social media platform, does not request payments through private messages, and does not offer investment opportunities through unofficial channels. Any such communication should be treated as a scam.
This is not the first time scammers have exploited ABIA's branding. The misuse of the Authority's logo and identity to deceive individuals into making payments has been previously recognized as a serious and recurring risk.
ABIA is also currently investigating reported technical issues affecting its official website, www.investantiguabarbuda.org. While the site remains accessible in some locations, intermittent disruptions have been reported and a technical team is actively reviewing the matter.
The Authority is urging the public to rely only on verified ABIA channels and to avoid clicking on suspicious links claiming association with the organisation.
ABIA reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the public and safeguarding the integrity of Antigua and Barbuda's investment environment. Anyone who encounters suspicious activity is urged to report it to the relevant authorities.
