A government member of parliament is pushing for breathalyzer tests to be conducted immediately at accident scenes, as lawmakers debate new legislation aimed at addressing fatal road accidents and compensation for bereaved families.
According to Antigua Observer, the call was made by St. Peter MP Rawdon Turner during parliamentary debate on the Fatal Accidents Bill 2026. The proposed legislation seeks to modernize Antigua and Barbuda's existing laws governing fatal accidents.
Turner's appeal for on-site breathalyzer testing signals growing legislative concern over road safety standards in the country, particularly the need for timely evidence collection following serious collisions. The Fatal Accidents Bill 2026 also addresses the rights of grieving families to seek compensation in the wake of fatal incidents.
