Prime Minister Gaston Browne has announced that the government is preparing to enter discussions with the Harmonites Steel Orchestra as redevelopment efforts in the Point and Villa communities press forward.
According to Antigua News Room, Browne stated that more than US$1 billion has already been invested in the two communities through a range of major projects, including the cargo port, cruise port, Global Ports development, and the Booby Alley Housing Project.
The Prime Minister said the government is committed to ensuring that residents and community organisations share in the economic benefits generated by that investment. As part of that commitment, the government is exploring ways to upgrade the steel orchestra's facilities while also creating new commercial opportunities in the area.
Browne revealed that Point MP Darvin Telemaque has been tasked with initiating the conversations with Harmonites to identify concrete areas of cooperation between the group and the government.
"We want to make sure that we take everybody with us. We uplift everybody," Browne said.
