Emergency responders are conducting an extensive search operation off Pigeon Point Beach after a man from the Swetes community disappeared while swimming on Wednesday, according to Antigua.news.

Police say the man entered the water earlier in the day for what appeared to be a routine swim. He was subsequently seen signaling for help before disappearing beneath the surface.

The incident prompted an immediate multi-agency response. Divers from the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force Coast Guard, members of the Antigua and Barbuda Search and Rescue (ABSAR) team, and personnel from a private diving company have all been deployed to search the waters surrounding Pigeon Point. The operation remained active at press time.

Authorities have not released the man's identity but confirmed he is believed to be a resident of Swetes.

Police are urging members of the public to stay clear of the immediate search area to allow rescue teams to work safely and without obstruction.

Officials say updates will be provided as soon as additional information becomes available.
