The Senate of Antigua and Barbuda is scheduled to meet today to debate five significant pieces of legislation, according to Antigua News Room. The bills, which span areas ranging from immigration to electronic crimes, were previously passed by the House of Representatives on Tuesday, June 16, 2026.
Among the bills before the Upper House is the Fatal Accidents Bill 2026, which seeks to modernize existing law relating to actions for damages in fatal accident cases and would repeal the Fatal Accidents Act, Cap 166.
The Magistrate's Code of Procedure (Amendment) Bill 2026 proposes amendments to section 38 of the Magistrate's Code of Procedure Act, CAP 255, specifically addressing the issuing of search warrants. Meanwhile, the Electronic Crimes (Amendment) Bill 2026 targets section 18 of the Electronic Crimes Act 2018, updating provisions related to Production Orders and the penalties for non-compliance.
On immigration matters, the Immigration and Passport (Amendment) Bill 2026 seeks to provide an amnesty pathway for individuals wishing to regularize their immigration status in Antigua and Barbuda.
The fifth bill, the Advance Passenger Information and Passenger Name Record Bill 2026, would establish a framework for the collection, transmission, sharing, storage and regulation of passenger data for persons travelling to, departing from, and transiting through Antigua and Barbuda, in line with international best practices.
As reported by Antigua News Room, the June 16 sitting of the House of Representatives also saw the appointment of members to the Public Accounts Committee. MP Hon. Jamale Pringle, Member for All Saints East and St Luke, was named Chairman. The committee will also include MP Hon. Trevor Walker, Member for Barbuda; MP Hon. Anthony Smith Jr, Member for All Saints West; MP Hon. Michael Freeland, Member for St George; and MP Hon. Melford Nicholas, Member for St John's City East.
