An opposition senator is raising serious questions about the integrity of roadworks across Antigua and Barbuda, alleging that a pattern of substandard construction followed by repeated resurfacing may amount to a deliberate scheme to drain public funds.

According to Antigua Observer, United Progressive Party Senator Jonathan Wehner has put forward the provocative suggestion that the cycle of poor-quality road work and subsequent repairs may not simply reflect incompetence, but could instead be corruption by design.

The senator's remarks point to a recurring issue in the country's infrastructure management, where roads that are resurfaced or repaired appear to deteriorate rapidly, necessitating further costly intervention. Wehner is questioning whether this pattern serves the financial interests of those involved in awarding and executing roadworks contracts at the expense of the Antiguan and Barbudan taxpayer.
