All government ministries and departments will soon be required to present quarterly performance reports to Cabinet, under a new initiative designed to strengthen accountability and improve public sector management.
The announcement came Thursday during the post-Cabinet briefing, following an extensive presentation by officials from the Ministry of Finance.
Director of Communications in the Office of the Prime Minister, Maurice Merchant, said more than a dozen finance officials appeared before Cabinet to deliver a comprehensive quarterly review of the ministry's operations and performance. He described the presentation as highly informative and said Cabinet has decided to expand the reporting model across the entire public service.
"As a matter of fact, coming out of that, all divisions within government will start making quarterly presentations," Merchant announced.
The Ministry of Tourism will be the first to participate under the new arrangement, with its presentation expected within the next two weeks.
Permanent secretaries, heads of departments and senior officials will appear before Cabinet to provide updates on the progress of programmes, projects and overall stewardship within their respective ministries.
The initiative will be rolled out across all ministries in the coming months, establishing a structured system of regular reporting and oversight aimed at improving efficiency, transparency and accountability throughout government.
