Antigua and Barbuda's Maliek Francis produced a record-breaking performance to claim gold in the men's javelin at the OECS Track and Field Championships in St Kitts and Nevis, launching the javelin 66.11 metres to take the title.

According to Antigua News Room, the throw established a new national record, surpassing the previous mark of 65.70 metres set by Oraine Brown at the NACAC Under-23 Championships in Mexico on July 6, 2012.

Francis' effort also rewrote the stadium record at the Kim Collins Athletics Stadium, besting the previous venue best of 60.40 metres recorded by Abijah Nemdhari on June 21, 2026.

With a single throw, Francis secured the OECS championship title while simultaneously breaking both the national and stadium records — a rare double achievement in any field event discipline.

The performance adds another gold medal to Antigua and Barbuda's overall tally at the championships and stands as one of the country's most significant field event results in recent years.
