Antigua and Barbuda's new renal unit is expected to open within the next one to two months, Prime Minister Gaston Browne announced on Saturday.
According to Antigua News Room, Browne made the remarks during the Browne and Browne Show, stating that construction on the facility is in its final stages as the government continues to expand the country's specialized healthcare services.
"We will complete the renal facility within a matter of maybe a month or two. It's practically finished," Browne said.
The renal unit is among several healthcare projects the government is advancing to improve access to medical services across the twin-island nation.
Browne also announced that Health Minister Sir Molwyn Joseph is expected to travel to China as part of ongoing efforts to develop a cardiac unit for Antigua and Barbuda.
The prime minister further stated that the country's long-awaited cancer treatment centre is expected to open this fall, following delays stemming from legal issues involving previous buyers of the facility.
Browne said the government remains committed to strengthening Antigua and Barbuda's healthcare infrastructure through targeted investments in specialized treatment facilities, with the goal of reducing the need for residents to seek medical care abroad.
