Antigua and Barbuda is hosting the Nottingham Girls' Day School from the United Kingdom for the third consecutive year, as part of an ongoing sports tourism exchange coordinated by the Sports Tourism Department within the Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Transportation and Investment.
The visiting delegation comprises two under-17 netball teams, who will compete in a series of exhibition matches against local sides from July 9th to 17th. Matches are being held at the Seatons netball court this week, with play moving to the YMCA Sports Complex next week.
The Ministry of Tourism noted that the annual visit continues to strengthen ties between the school and Antigua and Barbuda, while giving young athletes the chance to develop their skills, forge friendships and experience a new culture through sport.
Beyond the court, the students will explore some of the island's most popular attractions. Their itinerary includes snorkelling and water activities at Cades Bay, a visit to Stingray City, and a tour of the historic Shirley Heights.
Karen Joseph, head of the Sports Tourism Department and former national netballer, welcomed the delegation back to the twin-island nation. She expressed confidence in another successful exchange.
"Sports tourism is about so much more than competition. It's an opportunity for young people to connect, learn from one another and create lasting memories while experiencing everything our beautiful twin-island nation has to offer," Joseph said.
